Home for the Holidays—Habitat for Humanity to welcome nine families home during Christmas home dedication ceremony
Canton, Ohio, December 5, 2019 – On December 12, Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio will present nine families with the keys to their new Habitat homes during a special Christmas home dedication ceremony. Home sponsors, volunteers, and community leaders will gather from 5:30pm to 6:30pm in the Lauren Gill Center at Habitat for Humanity to welcome families home (1400 Raff Road SW, Canton).
During this home dedication ceremony, sponsors will present keys to each family and families will present their first 0% interest mortgage payments—this is the cycle that helps Habitat for Humanity build additional homes with low to moderate income families. Community leaders such as Mike Crawford, CEO of Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village, will be present to express thanks for the 100s of volunteers who completed the recent McKinley Grand Project and partnerships that have helped strengthen the local community. Government officials will have the opportunity to welcome families to the neighborhood. A house blessing prayer will be offered by Sandra Phillimore, a Habitat homeowner who has recently paid off her Habitat home.
Sponsors of these nine homes include City of Canton, Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital Run for Home, Dewey H. and Irene G. Moomaw Foundation, Diebold Foundation, Dominion Energy, FirstEnergy, Fred F. Silk Charitable Foundation, The Gessner Family, Greenwalt Fund, Haman Family Foundation, It's a Wonderful Life, Ohio Housing Trust Fund, Paul and Carol David Foundation, Philip E. Lattavo Family Foundation, Progressive Foam Technologies, Synchrony, The Timken Company, TimkenSteel, Williams Foundation, and proceeds from Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Canton, Habitat's nonprofit thrift store and donation center.
"Christmastime is the perfect time to celebrate the life-changing power of a home that is safe, warm, and affordable," said Beth Lechner, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio. "We are truly thankful for the many people who have given resources, time, and prayers of support, as well as everyone who has shopped and donated at ReStore—you're a part of each family's story and you've made a positive, lasting difference."
